What is a Doula?

A birth doula guides a woman and her partner through labour and the birth of their child. The doula’s role is to bring experience to the birthplace and to facilitate and enhance the roles of others present, to assist in creating a positive birth experience. Doulas work alongside Physicians, Midwives, Nurses, and Birth Partners, to provide uninterrupted support to the labouring mother.

Uninterrupted moral, emotional, physical, and informational support.

Responsibilities of a Doula

Your doula will be there during your pregnancy, to assist with birth preparation; she will help gather information about options and choices. She will be a gentle guide during labour, providing uninterrupted emotional, physical, and informational support. She suggests positions, relaxation and breathing techniques to aid in labour progression and pain management. Her main goal is to meet your needs. After your baby is born, your doula remains a mentor and resource for any questions or challenges you may have.
